Seven Danish Songs

DCW Coll. 4
RT III/4
DCE 15a and 15b

Composer: Frederick Delius
Authors: J.P. Jacobsen, Holger Drachmann

The Seven Danish Songs have a complicated history. All the songs were originally composed in the mid-1890s for voice and piano and set (in Danish) to the Danish words of Drachmann (no. 3) and Jacobsen (1,2,4,5,6,7). The autograph full score, moreover, contains two versions of the work with orchestral setting and English words: a sequence containing songs 6, 7, 2, 3 and 5 only, in that order, and a sequence with all seven songs in the final order, dated 1897. Given that individual songs each have a distinct publication history for different forces and in different languages, only information pertinent to the complete set is presented in this record. Detailed histories may be found in the individual catalogue records for each song.

Composition: 1897.

Instrumentation:
Orchestra : 2 fl., 2 ob., 2 cl., 2 fg., 4 cor., 2 tr., timp., cym., glsp., arp., str.
Soloist: voice
