A setting of J.P. Jacobsen, Digte, 'Irmelin Rose' (1869, ?1875). The date of composition of the original Danish setting for voice and piano is unknown, but likely to be in the mid-1890s. The orchestral version, like the others belonging to Seven Danish Songs, dates from 1897. The song accompaniment introduces a melody from the opera Irmelin (RT, 80).
