Frederick Delius
Two Pieces for Small Orchestra
Zwei Stücke für kleines Orchester
DCW Coll. 3
RT VI/19
DCE 27a
Composer: Frederick Delius
Dedicatee: Balfour Gardiner
It was at the suggestion of Percy Grainger that Delius composed some short pieces for small orchestra, after the former pointed out the practical difficulties for amateur orchestras of performing Delius's scores for large forces. The designation of the constituent works as a single opus is based on the original publisher's decision to publish them together. However, they were composed a year apart and have since had largely separate performance histories, and therefore are considered separately here.
Composition: Between 1911 and 1912.
