Composer: Frederick Delius
Author: Ludvig Holstein

Setting of Ludvig Holstein's poem 'Viol' from Digte (first two verses only). While the work is paired with 'Autumn' as Two Songs from the Danish in Threlfall's catalogue, there is no exclusive connection between the songs, and most of their publication history is as two of Five Songs from the Danish along with three songs, in their voice and piano versions, now considered properly part of the orchestral Seven Danish Songs. Consequently, the collective title is dispensed with here and each is considered separately. 'The Violet' exists in an orchestral version too, one of three songs arranged by Delius for Olga Wood in 1908.
