This five-movement work for Double Chorus and Orchestra sets poems from Whitman's Leaves of Grass as follows: I. 'Memories' and 'Out of May's Shows Selected'; II. 'From Montauk Point'; III. 'Passage to India' 9, lines 11-20; IV: 'Joy, Shipmate, Joy!'; V: 'Now Finalè to the Shore'. Delius embarked on sketches for the work in 1920/21, but had only drafted the first movement in full score before the work was laid aside. It was completed in 1929, with Fenby undertaking the elaboration and orchestration of the sketches for the remaining four movements at that time.
