This brief work was written and performed once, privately, under Beecham in 1915. It was only taken up again in 1929, by which point Delius has expressed some misgivings about the work. Jelka wrote to Heseltine in 1925 that 'Fred cannot make up his mind now to publish [...] as he does not quite like the end' (RT.1986, 150).
