Like the Five Piano Pieces, the Three Preludes originated in the seven little pieces intended for Yvonne O'Neill, and are the most elaborate of the set (see RT, 193).

This manuscript contains i) a pencil draft of the last 16 bars of Prelude I, which differs from the published version slightly and ii) a draft of the first 21 bars of Prelude I, both in the hand of Jelka.
