Delius's autograph manuscript - one of the last he was able to complete in his own hand - was not seen by the publisher, who used C.W. Orr's copy as the Stichvorlage, thus incorporating a number of errors. The first performances of the concerto used the originally published text, agreeing with the autograph score, but in 1932, Herbert Withers produced a new version of the solo part, which was published in a reissue of Heseltine's arrangement for cello and piano in 1935 (see Appendix). The Collected Edition is based on Delius's manuscript and Orr's copy, with the addition of editing of dynamics and metronome markings by Eric Fenby. These were approved by Delius on the basis of a performance of the concerto by Alexandre Barjansky and Fenby at Grez in 1928. The solo part for the Collected Edition is Delius's original, with Withers' part given as an ossia where it differs substantially (see also Threlfall's introduction to Volume 29b of the Collected Edition).
