Delius's orchestral score Appallachia uses the same melody as the 1902 work for orchestra with final chorus of the same name (although Delius revised his spelling between the two works). While the Collected Edition denotes the present work as American Rhapsody in order to avoid confusion, practice in this catalogue has been to use the original title as given on the autograph manuscript. The work remained unperformed in Delius's lifetime, and received its première only in 1986.

These parts, in the hand of a professional copyist, were used for their free staves for dictation by Delius to Jelka. However, they are of interest in providing evidence for the reconstruction of the missing page of the autograph score (see RT.1986, 79).

 Collected Edition Robert Threlfall Delius Trust London 1990 This edition adopts the expedient, based on perusal of the extant second violin parts, of repeating bb. 48-55 at bb. 90-97 to replace the missing page of the autograph score. This version also standardises the horn and trumpet parts, which were notated in D flat in the autograph score.  notated music print score first edition complete
